Didn’t we do well !! With a great turnout of Rotarians for a local BBQ ,

the Alstonville community responded brilliantly to our ‘Hay for Farmers’

drought appeal. Donations totalled $3,384.35 and the net proceeds

from the sausage sizzle amounted to $1,042. It is an amazing

result for one Saturday morning in the Alstonville Plaza, a tribute

to our generous little community.

Alstonville Rotary has also donated $1000 from club reserves and

our friends in the Inner Wheel Club of Alstonville are donating a further

$250. All together this totals $5,676.35.

The combined population of Alstonville and Wollongbar is a little

under 6000. Alstonville Rotary is proud and delighted to forward a

cheque of to the Rotary Club of Sydney for the

BURRUMBUTTOCK HAY RUNNERS. This represents around a dollar

for every member of our community, providing 3,500 litres of

fuel for those massive transport trucks.

This year's Antiques, Vintage & Collectables Fair will take place on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th May at the Alstonville Leisure & Entertainment CentreCommercial Road. The venue provides room for over 40 NSW and interstate dealers, ample parking and great refreshments.

Wares on offer include quality antiques, vintage books and comics, coins, jewellery, toys & porcelain collectables. Entry is only $6 and the doors are open from 9am to 4.30pm on Saturday and 10am to 3pm on Sunday. All proceeds from Alstonville Rotary's major fundraiser go to support local and international Rotary projects. On a day of brilliant sunshine some 300-people gathered in Alstonville to commemorate the centenary of Patrick Bugden`s death and subsequent Victoria Cross award.

Initially relatives, friends, past and present service personnel, Rotarians, Ballina Council representatives and members of the public, assembled at and near the RSL hall for a very sociable morning tea, before moving down to the monument site to the accompaniment of piper Graeme Broadhead.

Formal proceedings began with the mounting of the Military Guard provided by 1 RAR and this was followed by a blessing from one of Paddy`s relatives, Fr. Geoff Bugden.

A family representative Mr. Patrick Nunan then gave an eloquent and well-prepared account of the battle of Polygon Wood as he explained the circumstances under which Paddy carried out the repeated acts of outstanding and productive bravery for which he was awarded the Victoria Cross.
