Rotary’s world wide campaign to "END POLIO NOW' has come close to eradicating this terrible disease.
Alstonville Rotary's recent support for this global campaign included a sausage sizzle at Alstonville Plaza followed by two days of Bunnings BBQs, complete with information on the campaign raising over $3,000.
Antiques & Collectables Fair
The Annual Antiques & Collectables Fair is our major fundraiser, generating money for projects and causes we support locally, nationally and internationally. Stall holders and attendees come from far and wide for what is considered one of the best fairs in the region.
Alstonville Rotary were instrumental in the erection of a memorial to Paddy Bugden. The Alstonville resident was warded the Victoria Cross for conspicuous bravery in the Battle of Polygon Wood in WWI. A book detailing the life of Paddy Bugden is avaiiable here:
ShelterBox is an international disaster relief agency specialising in emergency shelter and Project Partner of Rotary International. Shelterbox Australia is the national affiliate and raises funds and awareness whilst providing opportunities for international service for Rotarians and anon-Rotarians alike.
Science & Engineering Challenge
The Science and Engineering Challenge was established by the University of Newcastle in the late 1990s, and began with a one day event on the NSW Central Coast in 2000. The Challenge has now grown to 800 schools, 22000 secondary students and 30 universities. The challenge is presented by the University of Newcastle in partnership with local universities, Rotary Club and sponsors.
Literacy and numeracy are fundamental in lifting children at home and abroad out of poverty. Alstonville Rotary collects primary school library books which are sorted and packed for shipment, in containers to deserving children in PNG, the Solomons and other Pacific nations.
